I want a target scope for my 10/22 and I'm looking for some thoughts before I purchase. I would like something capable of at least 12X, possibly higher if the optics quality can support it. Parralax adjustment would be nice, but not a requirement. Also I would prefer to stay around 40 to 44mm in objective size. I've ruled out BSA so that leaves brands like Tasco, Bushnell, Simmons, Cabela's Pine Ridge, and maybe a few other brands I'm forgetting. What would you guys recommend as the best bargain in this category for under $200?

If you want to look for something new I would look at the weaver scopes or the burris fullfield II 3-9X40, its going to be hard to find good optics for a 12X in that price range but you can find some real nice 3-9s out there. Personally I would get this nikon 3-9X40.http://theopticzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=3750 I just bought one from The optic zone a month ago and am very happy with it.

Take a look at Swift. They have a 4-12, 4.5-14, and a 6-18 that you should be able to get for $200 or less. The optics are super crisp and clear, and they have a no hassle warrenty.

For a target scope for a .22, you will probably want something with an adjustable objective to eliminate parallax at shorter ranges. Most 3x9 scopes are intended for big game centerfire rifles and are usually set to be parallax free at 150 yards. For a .22 rimfire, parallax free at 50 yards is better, but having an adjustable parallax is the best option. A friend has had good results with the Simmons Whitetail classics with adjustable parallax on his .22's You might be able to find a Simmons 6.5x20 WTC at Midway, currently on sale for $99.99 plus shipping. Simmons scope at midway It will need high rings but should work great for your needs. Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

I bought a 4 power and 6 power used Leupold scope on ebay for $145 and $170 and then sent them back to Leupold to have the parallax adjusted to 40 yards for rimfire use. The cost for this is $15 plus handling which was $15 also. For less than $200 each I have great 22 scopes.

Thanks everyone. I've narrowed it down to either a Swift or Mueller. I don't know much about the Mueller but they seem to be pretty decent quality.

I'll second the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40. I found one on ebay for $145 - a lot of scope for the money; a lot of scope for a 22. **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

There's a Nikon BuckMasters 4.5-14x40 AO in the AR classifieds right now, and it's being sold by tommyn (VERY reputable guy!). That's a terrific scope and one that will serve you quite well for years to come. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

I don't have any experience with the Nikon that Bobby is talking about but I will agree with joe on the Swift. I have a Swift 6-18 on my 10/22 and it is very bright and clear. E A Brown usually has good deals on the Swift line, stick with the Premier Models in the Swift line. Steve E........ Steve, I've been looking at Swift scopes and decided to go with that same model, the 6-18x44 with the target turrets. What kind of rings do you have? I can get high mount rings for the stock 3/8 dovetail but I'm not sure if they are high enough to clear everything or if I need to use a Weaver style base.
