I have a Redfield Jr. one-piece mount for Marlin 1895. What types and brands of rings work in the mount? What is the process to remove a mounted scope, then remount it? If anyone has a link to instructions for the mount, please provide me with a link to them. Since I have no rings, yet, for the mount, I cannot tell whether ring sets are available that render the telescopic sight as quick-detachable or easily detachable. Easy detachability is my goal. The Redfield patent expired decades ago, so now Leupold, Millett, and Burris all make turn-in rings (and also bases) that fit the Redfield base with its rear ring between two windage screws and front ring in a dovetail. This system is not "quick detachable", but once mounted, it does detach from the bases fairly quickly. The process is simply to remove ONE (or the other) windage screw then rotate the scope 90 degrees, hinging on the axis of the front ring. At 90 degrees, the front ring will release from its dovetail. Some people will tell you not to use the scope as a lever to turn the dovetail. This is certainly good advice before the scope is mounted, but once secured in the front ring the tube of a scope is amply stout to turn the ring back out of its dovetail seat. IF you could keep the windage screw you did not remove perfectly motionless, you could theoretically reverse the process and reinstall the scope without losing your zero. In practice, even the "quick detachable" mounts cannot always be trusted to return precisely to zero, so always shoot the gun to determine if the zero has shifted after remounting the scope.

Many thanks for the information. Since it won't do what I want my Marlin mount to do . . . I have a Redfield Jr. mount WITH INTEGRAL PEEP SIGHT for Marlin 336/444/1895 receivers for sale, now. It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson
