O.K. looking to get a tactical scope for a slash... coyote/ bench gun and will be playing with some longer ranges (target range/bench shooting) I have not done before.(6mm Remington Improved) Hope to be able to keep rifle around 9 # give or take one. Anyway, through my research I (think) I'm wanting...
Mill dots
Low power to @ least 18x power, maybe more?
30MM tube or better for more range up and down and side ways.
I'm use to MOA...what about millrads?
Front focal plane reticle.
1/4moa clicks or 1/10?
Most of these scopes have at least a 50mm objective...I like a 44 myself so it doesn't look like a trash can...seen one that is 56mm really Frowner.
I would love to have a Marsh or a Schmidt and Bender but realistically don't want to invest that kind of money.
I have always been a Leupold person and a couple of these are close to what I'm comfortable to spend on one.
I also like the Bushnell Elite Tactical series...but most of these have the 50 objective. Guess if that is the only fault with the tactical's is the objective than that's a price I'll have to live with. Why so big on the objective...cheap glass?
I want a good scope that is dependable and returns to where it should be and has positive clicks more than anything...and oh,this will be my first Tactical scope I have ever purchased.
Sooo what do you think...Smiler.

Valdada still do some without image-movement but I doubt they go to that many magnifications.

A 50mm objective will give a better view than any smaller objective as well as bring in more light, with all else equal.
I would go with the Bushnell of the 2 you mentioned and never look back.

Thanks for the replies. I'd spend good money on a good scope...a little more research but I kind of have my eye on a Nightforce, and not really cheap but its at the top of what I'd like to spend.(3x15x50)

Cameraland still has a few Zeiss 6.5x20x50 with target knobs still available.. I think they are like $600 shipped.

Not exactly a tactical, but if you not going into battle, it's fine. I got one and love it..

Mil or MOA either is fine. I just suggest keeping your adjustments and the reticle in the same measurement system. From what you are describing I would take a good hard look at IOR Valdada 3-18 x42 with the MP-8 reticle. I have that setup on my coyote rifle and it has done everything I can ask of it.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

I picked up an 8x32x56 Nightforce earlier today for $900 shipped. I intend to use it on my Blaser LRS-2 with 308 and 338 RUM barrels to try my hand at long-distance shooting. I can go well past 1,000 yards at the farm next door, and 400 yards at my own range. Should be interesting.
