I wanted to get some QD rings for my CZ-550 in 375 H&H that I recently purchased. I've been searching through the archives and I think I've confused myself a little bit. I'm looking at Warne QD rings since they are a little friendlier on the wallet, but I'm a bit confused on where to go from there. I see Warne has two options, a 1" and 30mm in both med and high heights. Can someone clarify how I decided between a 1" or 30mm, med vs. high? The scope I'm thinking of putting on the rifle is a Leupold 2x7 VX-I. Thanks for the help. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris | ||

The 1" vs. 30mm designation relates to the internal diameter of the rings - or rather to the diameter of the center tube of the scope to be mounted. For a Leupold VX-1 2-7, you need 1" rings. The "medium" vs "high" designation tells you something about the height of the scope above your receiver when mounted in said rings. A lot of people want to get the lowest possible mounting position - without the scope bell touching the barrel. How low a ring you can use depends on: 1) outside diameter of your scope objective bell, 2) height of ring, 3) height of base (not very much for the CZ with an integral base), 4) how much your barrel contour drops down at the point where your scope will be mounted. It can be a bit of "game" (or even trial and error) to get the absolute lowest mounting position. For the scope you have in mind, members with more specific experience with Warne rings will correct me if I'm wrong, I'd guess that a "medium" height ring would be better suited than a "high". So, at this point in time, it looks like a 1" "medium" set of rings for you. - mike P.S. I just found the ring height of the Warne CZ 550 QD "medium" ring to be specified as .425". http://www.warnescopemounts.com/scopering_chart.html Now, Warne does not specify exactly what they mean with that "ring height", but looking at the CZ 550 picture on this page: http://www.warnescopemounts.co...d_receiver_line.html it very much looks like the .425 is the measurement from the bottom of the ring to the bottom of the scope tube (when mounted). (Call Warne and verify this is correct before ordering your rings, though!!) The Leupold VX-1 2-7x33 has an objective diameter of 1.6" (according to http://www.leupold.com/hunting...copes/vx-i-2-7x33mm/ ). If we now calculate from a line running along the lower center scope tube, that means you need room for (1.6"/2) - (1"/2) = .3" below the bottom of the scope tube lower line. The medium ring offers you .425", so a medium height ring should be fine. Again: looks like a 1", "medium" ring is what you want. ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon...
