A question about Hawke scopes

I would like to know of any opinions about Hawke scopes. I have only shot one of them but my first thought is that they are a POS. If I moved from directly behind the sight line I got what looked like a mirage off to the side. Could this be a parallax problem? I have never seen this in any scopes I have ever shot prior to this. My friend bought this scope because he got a "good " price. His shots at 25 yds. were dead on, but when we moved to 100 yds. he threw rounds all over the target. I shot the rifle at 100 yds. and had the same problem. The mounts and rings are all tight.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dennis
