Service Nikon USA??

Dear All,

Have any of you got experience with the level of service offered by Nikon USA, and to what extent they stand behind their products??

Background, some 5-6 years back, I bought a Nikon Monarch 6-20x40 (sorry, the exact designation escapes me, but it was something of this order) via the Internet from a US dealer (AR member). I tried the scope on two rifles, and could not get either to shoot. In the end, I "parked" the scope, not strictly knowing whether the problem was with the scope or with the rifles - either is possible.

I intend to undertake a renewed attempt to see if the scope is what it is supposed to be. Should I fail, I intend to return it to Nikon USA with a description of the problem (however vague that may be - "can't get decent groups with this scope"...).

Have any of you got experience with Nikon in this respect?? If it had been a Leupold scope, I would have been pretty certain I would get 1'st rate service. I have no experience with Nikon...

- mike

Ah, I just found this lifetime warranty notice on Nikon's website. This sounds positive:

Still, If any of you have actual experience with Nikon's service, I'd love to hear about it.

A few years ago the strap on my D1X came undone and the camera hit the cement. Internal mechanism of the camera broke as did one or more of the glass components in a $1500 lens.

The equipment was out of warranty and the dealer got a quote of $1200 plus.

I sent the camera in and the bill came back at $600. I frankly was tickled and both camera and lens has worked perfectly for 10 years since then.

Therefore I would rate service competent and more than fair in price.

Don't know if camera and scopes are the same outfit though.

When the my father was buying rifles from Roy Weatherby, you could specify just about anything you wanted in Decoration.

Now while I assume that is still available from the custom shop, they have produced "Pre-packaged Custom" guns of which the picture is one.

In particular it is the "Mark V Safari Custom" and is available in various Weatherby Calibers from .257WM to .460WM.

In addition to the above, this package includes the following:

•"AAA fancy" French walnut Monte Carlo stock with satin oil finish
•Features ebony for end and pistol grip cap with Fleur-de-lis checkering
•Damascened bolt and follower with engraved floor plate “Safari Custom”
•Adjustable "express" ramp rear sight, hooded barrel band front sight and barrel band swivel stud
•Optional drop box magazine available.

While I don't currently have one, I put the picture here because I think the rifle is gorgeous and helps remind me what I saving my drachmas for.

There are several packages available. Some more, some less.

With regard to Nikon Service, I had a problem with a 6x18x40 Nikon that I had purchased used from Carters Country in Houston. I called Nikon and received a service repair order and shipped the scope to their California office in December of 2009. The scope's progress was easily tracked through their website. Upon being returned to men in January, I took the scope to the range and had the same problem arise. I called nikon, they payed return shipping and sent me a new 5x20x40. They have excellent warranty service and repair. I was completely satisfied with their service.

about 12ish years ago my buddy drove off with his rifle leaned up against his truck. The tube to his Nikon Monarch was bent and some of the lenses were broken. They gave him a newer and improved model scope for $20.. We were talking about it just the other day when discussing Leupold vs Nikon

I had a Monarch 3x-9x with a bent tube; I sent it to the service center on Long Island, and they replaced the scope at no charge even though I was not the original owner.

I noticed last season that my 10x40 monarch binocs wouldnt focus out past 500 yards. I sent them to nikon and they replaced this set of 12 year old binocs with a brand new set. Hard to beat that!

Thanks Guys, it makes me think more optimistically about my Nikon scope - which I had almost filed under the "Erroneous Purchase" category...
