I ordered one of these with the German #1 reticle from Leupold's custom shop to mount on a 458 lott. The reticle is nice and the scope holds zero.

There is one issue though. it is blurry at 100 yards.
Here's what I have done:

1) tried focusing the the eye piece back and forth. This caused the reticle to focus and unfocus. I was able to focus the reticle nice and sharp, but it has no effect on the blurriness/cloudiness of the background at 100 yards. (Yes, the lenses were spotlessly clean)

2) I had multiple friends, with 20/20 vision like me, look through it and they all saw it was blurry and unfocusable. We all agreed the new redfields had much sharper image and clarity than this FX-2.

3) I sent the scope into leupold with an explanation of everything I've tried and what was wrong. They returned the scope with a letter saying everything was in spec and they couldn't find anything wrong with the scope.

4) Any ideas what to do? It's really bothering me that I payed over close to $400 for a scope from a company that supposedly has an excellent reputation for quality and customer service for a scope that should have decent clarity, but instead I got a scope with less clarity and focus than a Nikon Prostaff and a company that can't see the same thing that any other outside person can.

I may end up selling it after this and just buying the VX-3 1.5-5 so that I can actually focus on my targets down range. The main reason I bought the scope was because it was supposed to hold up to the 458 recoil and have decent clarity in daylight.

While I wasn't expecting it to be as crisp as a VX-3 or ziess, I was expecting it to be better than a redfield revolution and definitely better than a prostaff

That's weird, man. The parallax adjustments also have something to do with picture focus but, if Leupold says everything is as it should be, I'd be reluctant to muck around with the objective lens.

It is an interesting story to put against those of the fans with Apple-like devotion, who say the company never fails you.

I had the parallax set at 100 yards.it is a tough scope that works. I'm just disappointed in the clarity.

Send it back to Leupold. They'll make it right.

I just bought a new FX-2 in 6 X 36 with exactly the same problem. This is the first time I had an unsatisfactory Leupold scope.
