I've been looking at the IOR 2.5 X 10 X 42 with an illuminated reticle to go on one of my .223 AI rifes for Coyote Hunting at night...I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with this scope and what your recommendations are..?????

I have the non-illuminated version of that scope:

Plinking at 1000 yds in the cold:

Completely and utterly reliable tracking...kills stuff dead:

Overall, one HELL of a scope for the money. Not perfect...though not a big deal at only 10X I wouldn't mind parallax adjustment for long range shooting and it's a bit short on real eye relief (though if I can deal with it on my 300 RUM I think you'd be OK with your .223 AI Wink ).

Hope that helps.

I also have a 2.5-10x42 IOR, illuminated MP8, but mine is FFP. Reticle is different from Jon's reticle in that mine does not have the thick posts at the 9, 12, and 3 o'clock positions. It is thin all the way across.
Just and FYI if you do get into one.
Mine is going on a plain ole 223 if my base ever shows up...

Forgot to mention...the NEW MP8 reticle has a floating dot where the crosshairs intersect...very cool.

Thanks for bringing that up, I should have mentioned it. With illumination, you don't really need the thick posts in low light anymore. Wink Is this what yours looks like?

If it wasn't for the fact I didn't want to have to rely on the illumination (especially since I hunt in places it's illegal) I would have chosen that one. In many ways I think I should have anyway. But I wanted the thick posts. I think either would have made me happy.

I really appreciate all the comments and advice about the IOR Scopes.......Especially the Reticles since I'll be using it a lot at night for Coyote Hunting......I had about decided to buy one but I wanted to hear from some individuals that had actually owned one (or some) and how they felt about them...I called SWFA and they don't have the NEW MP8 Reticle with the Floating Dot and the absence of the heavy posts at 9, 12 & 3 o'clock......Do any of you have any suggestions at to the best place to get one and the best price??? BTW, I assume we are talking about the Tactical Model and not the Hunting Model??? Thanks again for all the help.....George

If you get the FFP version it should look like the last one I posted. I think they've been that way for a while now.

The first one I posted (with the thick posts) was 2nd FP non-illuminated. I don't believe they've been changed to the dot yet.

The 3rd variation is the illuminated 2nd FP (illumination adjustment on the eyepiece instead of the "side focus location" of the FFP). I don't know what reticle they currently have.

At least you have choices. Wink My advice is to talk to Scott.

Yes, all these are tactical models. I have no idea about their hunting models.

Jon, I called Scott today and talked with him about the 2.5x10x42 w/illuminated reticle...He tells me that they do have the MP8 with the floating dot reticle now in both the FFP and the SFP Scopes....However, I understood him to say that they do have the heavy post at the 9-12-3 o'clock positions...He was very helpful and went on to say that he really felt that most of the "issues" that had been a problem in the past have been resolved......Again, I want to thank you very much for all of your help, suggestions and advice as well as the photos which were a big help in making an informed decision...George
