Is the ballistics program any good on this range finder. I am looking to up grade and wonder if is worth the extra bucks to get it.

Dont even get me started on the CRF 1600. I upgraded to one this year, and lost it during a bowhunt with a couple of Australians. The first hunt that I got to use it...gone.
I will be replacing it with another CRF1600.
When it comes to rangefinders, Leica is hard to beat. Sorry I could not answer your question. If it is as good as Leupold's Ballistic program that they use in their rangefinders, which I suspect it is or even better, it will be spot on.

Best Regards

No experience with that model or the ballistics program, but Leica rangefinders -- as their optics generally -- are top-notch. I've had two Leica rangefinders. The first was one of the old, big ones -- don't remember the model. It still worked great and after several years of use, I gave it to a PH who admired it as part of his tip. By then, Leica had come out with a compact model, which I quickly acquired and am still using to this day.

I have the 1200 without the ballistics program. My friend has the 1600 and loves the accuracy, size, weight, ease of use BUT he doesn't like the ballistics program at all. He finds it a waste of time and uses his Droid with an ballistics app.

Sorry I'm not giving you first hand knowledge.

I bought mine at the beginning of this year. I've had my Swaro 8x30 for about 4 years and absolutely love it; minus a few small matters. I did SxS comparisons out to around 1000 yds, on deer, up on the local canyon sides during the spring. They both performed admirably. I sold the Swaro! I'm not saying the Leica was better when it came to accuracy or conditions. The Leica was smaller, lighter, easier to aim and range, and quicker.

Being a LR shooter/hunter, I like the angle and temp feature. Even though I run a Kestrel 2500, it's nice to compare temps and easier to get the angle than using the angle feature on my DROID's Shooter program.

Have not used the ballistic program yet other than when I did the SxS comparison which did not involve shooting. This due to either having BDC reticles, such as the Leupold B&C or I dial in my elev drops. The 1600 does come with 12 internal ballistic drop tables. Works out to 500 meters, ONLY, which is reasonable since one is not dialing in to a specific drop. Shows the drop corrections in inches (IIRC).

Setting up the whole thing can be a challenge for some of us who don't like to read manuals but it "IS" necessary to get it set properly in Enlish since mine came set up in Metric. Once set up, it's not all that hard to operate the two function buttons.

Hope this helps. Again, I'm still happy with it and am not crying over selling my Swaro.
