Looking at a Weaver Classiv V scope in a 2-10X38. How are these scopes these days? Thanks for any help.

I have the V16 and V24 classics that I use for daytime varminting and they are very nice quality. Not as nice optically as my VX-III's but the adjustments are very precise and repeatable. Just don't expect great service from Meade Optics (the new owner) for them. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. I have a v10 on my contender 223 carbine. It is a very clear scope & the controls work very well but it has tunnel view. If you can get over that it they are a good value, especially mine a gift from the rep.

I had one (V10 2-10x38mm) and no longer do. No matter what I did it was like looking down a black tube. Any scope that I cannot get a full sight picture to fill up the view does not stay. You learn something new everyday whether you want to or not.

I got a Weaver V10, 2-10x38, on a rifle that I bought. I really wanted to like it, as it was a perfect match to the stainless Winchester/USRA 70 Ultimate Shadow in 25 WSSM, but no matter how much I tried to like it, I couldn't. It is like looking down a black tube and I find that to be very distracting. Shortly after I got the V10, I got a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 on a stainless Remington 7 synthetic in 243 that I took in trade. I really didn't want a $125+/- scope to be that good, but it was so much better than the V10 that it isn't even close. I think that a Leupold VX2 is a good/safe choice if you want a 3-9x scope, but I have 50+/- Leupolds and have yet to have 1 cause me any grief. Jeff

260remguy, "You've got 50 + leupolds".................just think if you'd tried the Nikons(either the Buckmasters or the MONARCHS) before now!! The Nikon glass is really really really superb for the dollars spent!! GHD Groundhog Devastation(GHD)

I have multiple hundred rifles, so 50+/- Leupolds accound for about 1/3 that are scoped and ready to shoot. The others are collectables from the time before rifles were d&t for scope mount at the factory or NIB guns. I have scopes from all over the World, but tend to buy Leupolds because I know that I can depend on them. Kinda like buying Jeeps, they might not be the best for everyone, but I know them well and am confident in what they can do, within my limits and their's. Jeff Jeff
