For a 375 Rugger SS I have come up with two scopes choices one is a Burris FF II 1.75-5 x20 and the other is a Leupold VXIII 1.75-5 x 20. The Burris with the German 3P#4 reticle and the Leupold with a heavy duplex either one seams suitable. Long eye relieve and good quality is what I am looking for.I have not been able to find anything else suitable. Long eye relieve is important on the Ruger#3 because of the mounting limitations. What are your views on these two scopes Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

Manufacturer's scope specifications are infamously inaccurate. Before buying a scope based on the published specs, check it out "in the flesh" to see if it actually has the eye relief specified. Another factor which is almost never speced is how critical a scope's eye relief may be. When some spec "4 inches", that distance may be very critical -- 4 inches and virtually no more or less without losing the sight picture. Others will spec "4 inches", but be non-critical and allow a full sight picture at 4.8-3.3 inches. Just check out the two scopes first before choosing.

DEFINATELY buy the Leupold. "In case of a thunderstorm stand in the middle of the fairway and hold up a 1 iron, not even God can hit a 1 iron"............Lee Trevino.

Kind of an unfair comprison, since the VXIII is nearly twice as much money as the Fullfield II. Without considering cost, I would definately opt for the Leupold!!! Talk is cheap - except when Congress does it. Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin' NRA Life Member

Thanks for the replies. I have researched a lot of scopes including the Conquest 1.75-5.75. This is a fine scope no doubt. For a woods rifle the Conquest is not as compact, nearly 4" longer and almost twice as heavy at 18oz with an un-needed 38mm objective than either the two I mentioned. The Leupold has the longest eye relieve which I have decided to buy. I have three Burris scopes and they are Ok too. One Burris Signature electro dot 3-9 went back to the factory and was replaced. The other 6x HBR scope went in for an HBR II upgrade at no charge. The third one an FF II 6.5-20 has not given any trouble So I can't complain about the Burris factory service or performance. If it was not for the extra eye relieve I would have opted for the Burris. As it is I have to cut some off the stock even to mount the Leuplold on the Ruger #3. I also made custom Weaver bases which will put the rear ring on the action, .960" further back then any other mounting system. I had to use the same system on a #1 25-06. On a standard #1 the Ruger ramp could be modified and brought back an inch. You just can't shoot a rifle well when you have to crawel up to the scope. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

Yer, I wouldn't mind a quid for every stock I've had to cut shorter. And save me from these short compact scopes that mount jammed up against the front bell. Want to go the other way, jammed up against the focus ring.
