Hello all,
I have a bolt action that I wanted to put a Leupold 2.5x8 on,unfortunately it's a long action & the scope body was too short to fit,the gun has talley rings & bases, talley does not have rings that would make this scope work,in the past I have used a 1.5x5 Leupold on it,I have used this setup successfully on two African hunts, the gun is chambered in the 338 Lapua,I am contemplating a hunt in Alaska,I would like to increase the magnification if I can,I am also thinking of going with a 30mm tube versus 1",is there a good choice out there in 1-8x24 30mm tube that won't break the bank?I am looking for a straight body scope, thanks.

I have a friend who just had the same issue on the Dakota action, he went with a Leica from Doug at Cameraland, one of the only scope's that he could find with a long enough tube

Put a full length picatinny rail on the action. Then you move and position your scope and rings exactly where you want. My son just did this with his new Christensen Arms 28 Nosler rifle. Couldn't mount Leopold vari-x 5 with rings due to not enough tube length and the long/magnum action. You may have to buy a new set of rings but worth it to get things just right. Scott
