Trying to decide on a compact scope for a schoenauer a 1.5-5x32 grand slam or a leupold vx111 2.5-8x36. A gun shop owner told me he had more warranty claims on the leupolds and they were ''full of bugs inside '' .He said the Grand slam was a much better scope .I like the look of leupold better but its dearer, any advice please

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I've used Leupold scopes for years and have never had a problem with them. I haven't tried the new Weavers but I hear they are a pretty good scope for the money. My preference would be for the Leupold but you will be okay with either.

Time to find a new gun shop; one that isn't run by an idiot. Seriously though, chances are excellent that the Leupold will be flawless and stay that way for a long long time. If it does puke, it will be covered by the warrenty service which is the standard of comparison for the industry.

Personally, I'd wait for the new Conquest's before buying a scope in this power range. They may be great or they may be ordinary. Either way, they warrent a look.

I hope this fella isn't someone you have delt with for a long time. I've been using Leupold scopes since 1975. I've bought new and used ones over the years. I still haven't had one problem with one. I also have a Weaver Grand Slam I think for the money its a real value in a scope. Compare your local dealers price with online Weavers. If he is close and you decide on the Weaver it's nice to give a local business your trade. If he isn't well he may be full of more than bugs. Perhaps a little bull
I would suggest you also look at the Bushnell 4200.

Be very careful with spacing before you buy your scope. I have a Mannlicher 270 and with the old Redfield mounts I had to use a Leupold 1.5X5 to get decent ring spacing. The 2.5X8 has very limited ring spacing (5.1 inches) and may not work.

I have had problems with Leupold, Burris, Nikon, Barska, Tasco, and Redfield.

Only a rich man can afford a cheap scope!
