I have a new VXIII 8.5-25x50mm with a target dot. I am having trouble keeping the reticle crisp and at times visible. I have palyed with the eye relief and I believe that is not the problem. I have to have the reticle focus cranked all the way in to keep the reticle half assed clear. I have tried to back the reticle focus all the way out as well. I Just want to make sure it is not operator error before I send it to leupold. I believe it is a reticle focus issue as it will be clear, then I will lose focus, then looking away and then back will bring it clear again???

Have you adjusted the parallax? Are you wearing glasses? Do you need glasses?

I’ve had reticles go in and out of focus but can’t say that I’ve ever had one disappear on me! Smiler

Andy,
If everything else fails, read the directions(grin). Not trying to be a wise guy but it's spelled out pretty well.

Funny about the glasses... Actually I know its not my eyes. Not a parallax issue, and I have read the directions. For those of you who have a target dot reticle- if you turned the focus for the reticle (the eyepiece end of the scope that is threaded with the locking ring) so it was on the verge of being out of focus, that is as clear as I can get it when the eyepiec is threaded all the way towards the main tube of the scope. I have tried pushing the scope farther forward- bringing the threaded eyepiece out, but wherevere the scope is relative to eye relief I still have to have the eyepiece as far forward as it goes to get the reticle visible. I am usually pretty good at figuring things out!

1 set focus to infinty
2 point scope at white wall
3 look at the reticle as the eyepeice is tunred from in to out a little at a time
4 look no more than 3 sec at a time
5 reduce the eyepeice movement until only 1/16 of a turn makes it clearer (BLACK,..not gold)
6 lock the ring once the reticle is perfectly balck and crisp

7 then proceed to the target focus

if it doesn't come clear pointed at the wall, it has a lense issue and needs to be sent back.

Difficulty is inevitable
Misery is optional
