The other day, we were out in just miserable weather. Wet, sleeting snow, still hunting through pines, in tough , steep terrain and getting soaked in the process. When I went to (maybe) shoot at a buck (which I later passed up) my Vari X III 2.5-8x36 was horribly fogged and blurred. My partner passes me his 243 wiht a Bushnell ELite 4200 scope on it, and just like all the times I have used Rainguard coated products- it's nice and clear. I'd prefer not to replace my Leupolds with Bushnells, so if someone has coated a scope wiht one of those windshield solutions, let me know. I had Stoney Point scope covers installed, but they *do* leak in wet, snowy conditions, it's happened to me a few times. How well do those Leupold screw in scope covers work? 375 Ruger- The NEW KING of the .375's!! | ||

Some guy came as a guest of one of the others in our group at our hunters camp in Northern Wisconsin one year.... We had similar weather out there opening weekend.. this guy had a Leupold 3 x 9 on his rifle.... He took a candle and rubbed it on both ends of his scope on the glass... I let him do the same to my old Tasco I was hunting with at the time... It not only didn't effect optic quality, but it also prevented the scopes from fogging and also shed the rain.... said it was a tip he picked up from his wife from around the house.... I've done it some here in Oregon, where wet weather is sort of a fact of life... cheap solution that darn well works.... Then once agan, good old rain X from Wally World works...the thin coat of candle wax comes off easily is why I prefer it... Life Member: The American Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Jan 20, 2009.. Scope Dope, Cat Crap or Parker's Perfect. Get something that says it is specifically for fine optics like scopes and binoculars. Rain-X has chemicals that will deteriorate the coatings of fine optics, I wouldn't recommend it. You learn something new everyday whether you want to or not. | |||
