Now there is a new line of Leupold scopes. Vari X 3 i. I have not handled one, so can´t comment on optics quality and features. I think Leupold scopes are really good and dependable. But I have a BIG complaint: for me, "i" means "illuminated". E.g. Swaro Z 6, Z 6i. If it means e.g. "improved" in that case, it´s "cheating" for me! Maybe the Vx-3j version will be the illuminated one.

Leupold tech told me the i is for improved. Just how I have no idea. They did drop the price on the new i models compared to the previous VX3's. Gloss finish is now a custom shop extra. They are reducing the number of models in their scope line.

The 'i' is for improved. There has been a measurable improvement in the nomenclature. The product name now includes an 'i'. The inclusion of the 'i' in the nomenclature is the improvement. .

The VX3i is cheaper than the VX3 too, which is a positive.

Okay, I have corrected it: The 'i' is for improved. There has been a measurable improvement in the nomenclature. The product name now includes an 'i'. The inclusion of the 'i' in the nomenclature is the improvement. Nomenclature improvement incurred negative costs so the models with 'i' nomenclature are priced lower than those without a nomenclature improvement. .

And the VX 3 1,75 - 6 x 32 didn´t get an illumination, it was simply deleted. It´s a shame! The trend seeems to be "big is beautiful" - with 50 and 56 bells. Hermann formerly, before software update, known as "aHunter", lost 1000 posts in a minute

Well the 2.5-8x VX3i is quite simply fantastic on a deer rifle. simple, lightweight and enough magnification for the longer shots. No faffing about with Side focus or Dial up. Have both and simple is better

Well said! Scopes for hunting rifles should be kept simple. Adjustable parallax or focus is certain to be set for the wrong distance when game appears. The same is true of "dialable" elevation. It is foolish to waste time fiddling with your scope when game appears -- even when it is at a distance and not subject to spooking it can unexpectedly step behind a tree or wander over a rise while you are monkeying with your scope. Scopes with simple elevation reference marks can be put to use quickly, so if you do have occasion to shoot at extended ranges use one of those instead of the twisty-style scopes.
