do you guys have any likes or dislikes on nikon monarch series scopes, my budget is 4-600$, have heard alot on vortex viper pst series, any input is always appreciated. Nikon years ago made 35mm cameras and they were always considered top of the line people made remarks because the lenses were top.
Nikon glass is excellent---much better than Leupold. The build quality is excellent. The reliability is superb. The only criticism I can level at them is that at higher magnifications, the eyebox can get touchy. Otherwise, excellent.

I've owned a few Nikon products, remembering the company as numero uno in SLR cameras years ago. The lenses seem fine to me but my 4-16 Monarch has so much tunnel vision I replace it with a Leupold VX-1 when I don't need extreme range provisions.

Absolutely love the Japan models. Have had 2 of the newer monarchs made in the Phillipines, and am not a real fan. The tracking was not great on either and the eyebox got frustrating. They are still quite clear though.

I made the mistake once of buying a camera from a company that primarily makes riflescopes, thinking that if it makes good riflescopes it can make good cameras. Unfortunately, the product was was ill-adapted for use as a camera and had to be discarded.
Likewise, people sometimes make the mistake of buying riflescopes made by camera companies thinking that if they make good cameras they can make good riflescopes.
If you want a picture, buy a Nikon. If you want to shoot at something and hit it, buy a Leupold.

We judge our scopes by trying to count the bolts on an access plate on the water tower down the road. My late BIL's Leupold VX-1 kicked my Nikon's butt. I let it go with a 700 Rem I sold. Better glass?.....I'm not buying that.
