Alright, so the time has come for a scope change on my 308. The current optics are mediocre and just not to my taste, they have served a good life for the past 15 years. But its time to get serious, This rifle shoots MOA no problem with the Tasco World Class scope and the thin metal see thru mounts. But with the new handloads and work im doing this is going to be a single hole puncher. So im starting from bases and going up. Im thinking I will put a set of Warne bases on it and a set of there matching rings. Topped with a 3-9x Nikon of some kind when I find one I like for the price I like. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewP...productNumber=636204

There is a really good deal on a 3x9x40 Nikon Monarch on the forum this very moment. As far as the foundation....I only use Leupold stuff. Remington 700's of mine all have dual dovetail 2 pc. bases and rings on them....all line lapped and very low to the bore. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

I didnt see the Monarch for sale, I only seen that Omega and I asked about the color cause I want an Omega for my Muzzleloader. Why do you use the dual dovetail over the weaver mounts?

Some prefer the concept of having two lugs inserted in both front and rear bases as opposed to a system which depends on clamping power into a grooved section on the rear base. Sure you are familiar with the typical Leupold front base/ring set up, but with the so called dual arrangement both front and rear base/ring are identical. Supposedly makes for "rock solid" mounting system and it most likely does, but you forego the windage adj. ability in the conventional arrangement.

The windage adjustment puts scope tubes into one hell of a bind and totaly negates the methode of mounting rings on muzzle/bore centerline and then line lapping. They have thier place, I actualy have two sets of them on my Kimber rifles. (windage type) As far as why I like the Leupold mount system over the weaver type.......tough question, I suppose if I wanted a clamp style mount system it would be a Talley system. I found the link for the scope. I gave him a bump the last time he ran it. http://forums.accuratereloadin...2711043/m/7621053921 ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Guess I will have to look into the Dual Dovetail...I have the weaver style on my 7mm Mag and they seem to work well. But you guys definately know more about this than I do. here is what the rifle currently looks like...Not the best picture, but you get the idea.

I have several older hunting rifles with the "standard" Leupold bases with windage rear mounts on them. They've all been fine. Lately though, I've been putting the dual dovetail bases on, with the Burris signature series rings on them. I was skeptical as hell about these rings, until I actually tried a pair. Now I'm sold on them. Love them, and they'll go on all my future scoped hunting rifles. You can't go wrong with a Nikon scope. I have several of them, in various sizes. My oldest one, has been on my 338 Win mag from day 1, and that's pushing 20 years now. It's a 3.5-10x50 monarch. It's never lost zero, and it's been all over hell's half acre, from 120 degree heat, to -15 below zero and blizzards. Great scope that's never caused me a minute's trouble.
