Here is a quote from an article about Leupold's new "Freedom" line of scopes:

All of the scopes feature Leupold’s proprietary Twilight Light Management System which has the effect of enhancing red’s and blues, thus increasing low light capabilities.

It's nice to see that a scope manufacturer is admitting up front that in order to make the user perceive a "brighter" image that they are artificially coloring the light transmitted through the scope. They've been doing this for decades with their more expensive scopes, but have now extended the color-shifting to the leader line of scopes. And why not? It costs practically nothing and consumers always seem to be pleased by it.

Incidentally, when the advertising copy writer says "enhances reds and blues" what he really means is that the spectrum is shifted toward the red which actually dims the blues -- but that's what makes the picture appear brighter to the human eye which is more sensitive to the reds end of the spectrum (that's why you can't see ultraviolet light, which is at the extreme blue end of the color spectrum).

It seems that the "true color" optics are rapidly disappearing -- just like the gloss scope tube they may soon be nearly impossible to find.
