I want a compact mil-dot scope for my 458 socom ar-15. I tried one of those cheap Leapers scopes, but it broke on the second round. I thought I might get a Leopold vxii modified by Premier Reticles, but is seems that they do not do that work anymore.

Any suggestions?

The Nightforce 2.5-10x32 is a great scope that is available with a bunch of different reticles, mil-dot among them and I guarantee you won't break a Nightforce. The downside of that is that it is pretty heavy for its size. I have one on a .308 AR that I think is just tits.

That is a nice scope and is not too long, but I should have mentioned that I was hoping to spend less than $500.

Something like the NF 1-4x24 http://www.opticsplanet.net/ni...pact-riflescope.html is what I want, but not at $1200. I currently use a 1.5x shotgun scope and it would be fine if it had a mil-dot reticle.

You may wanna look at the the vortex scopes, hold up pretty good under some serious recoil. If weaver made a short mildot scope I would say take a look at them.
