My wife wants a new scope for her custom stocked Ruger #1 with 20" barrel. She also wants a heavy reticle like a #4 or a heavy Duplex. I think she wants more than a 1.5x5 Leupold which is actually only 4.5 magnification and with a 20mm objective. The 1.75x6 might be about right but it may not mount far enough to the rear for proper sighting for her. The new Nikon Omega with 5" of eye relief seems about right and it about the size of a Leupold 2.5x8. Does any one change reticle? I guess Nikon would be a good place to start but I don't know how to contact them. The current scope is an old Redfield 2x7 TV type with about 7" of scope behind the rear scope ring. It looks ridiculous. Help!

army......I own several 2x7 Redfields. They measure 11 1/4 inches long. Which puts them right around the same length as the Nikon Omega, at 11.3 inches. If you have 7 inches sticking out behind the rear scope ring, well, then, you must have both rings mounted ahead of the adjustment turrets. You will probably have to do some measuring, and lining up to see if the Nikon can be mounted satisfactorily. There is not much tube space for rings, as the objective seems to be quite large. And the eyepiece seems to take up a lot of room. As to reticules; the Nikon is available, also,(according to their advertising,) with the Nikoplex reticle...... Ironsight Inc. installs custom reticles in some brands of scopes, besides Redfields. T. K. Lee can install almost any size dot, in almost any scope.....I am having them install a big, black, four minute dot in an old Redfield 2 3/4 as I write this......Will make an excellent woods scope, for heavy cover shots at jumped deer. You might give Parson's Scope Service a call, at 513-867-0820 See if they can help with the heavy reticle. I'd like to try one of the new Nikon Omegas, on a hard-kicking .300 Win. Mag. I own. As they seem to be made to stand hard recoil..... Hope you find a scope, and reticle for the wife.......Not too many of us lucky enough to have "the little lady" want to go hunting with us.........Grant.
