Are the Ultavids worth the extra $1000 or so over the older Trinovids?
I have a set of Trinovids already but am thinking of updating to the lighter Ultravids.

If you are doing it for the difference in weight then yes as you will get more enjoyment from carrying a lighter unit all day.
If you are asking strictly from an optics point of view, then I would say most likely not. Reason is that even though technically the Ultravids and newer Ultravid HD's are optically superior to the Trinovids your eyes may not be as good as the difference and may never even see it
