I just bought one of the new Remington SPS in .223 and am trying to decide on a scope. I really like the Nikon Buckmaster line, but I'm trying to decide between the 4-12x50 and the 6-18x40. Any input on larger objective vs. higher magnification or these two scopes in particular? I'll mainly be punching paper with the occasional varmint hunting trip. Thanks, Dan

If you are going to use the scope mainly for paper punching, I would go with a scope with a 40mm objective. Jon Jackoviak The Optic Zone - Discount Rifle Scopes, Spotting Scopes and More! Email: info@theopticzone.com

Don't overlook the 4.5x14, it kind of fits in the middle of the two scopes you listed. I've got a 6x18 buckmaster that I just mounted on a 223 and hope to get some range time in tomorrow. All in all, it looks like a nice scope, good crisp clicks and clean looking with the side-focus parallax.
