hmmmmmm....that ain't good! I bet the slide rule types at Weaver (okay, the guys that know what all the buttons do on a calculator) are going to spend a lot of time looking at that!

Note to self....avoid QRW rings until this boo-boo is addressed.

I dropped a scope (removed from a rifle) with QRW rings on it. Happened to land on the lever which was pointed away from the scope body. It broke off ... leaving part of the shaft inside in such a way that I could not get it out.

I dropped Leupold a note explain what happened and clearly stating that it was MY fault. I ask how to get the shaft out and if I could buy a new bolt. They sent a note back asking for my address. They replace the complete ring assembly at no charge (and they paid the shipping).

Hard to complain about that! Smiler

I expect they'll fix you up very quickly.

I've never heard of that happening before.
I use those same Leupold QRW's on all of my short action Rem 700/722's. Scopes get in that way in the safe, so I remove them for that reason, and I use some slave 20x scopes for testing loads, and the QRW's allow for me to quickly install a 20x for a day of testing.
I'd do as Mike suggested, make a call to Leupold and see what the rep says that you talk with.
There's no question that Leupold will not stand behind a problem like that, making it right by sending you a new one.

Are the Mounts and Rings from two differant makers. This could be the cause of the failure? Confused

Yes the part which broke attracts a magnet.

FWIW: I have been using these rings for near 15 years and love the ease of off and on that they allow. Cleaning the rifle or as posted above maximizing the safe space. I guess like a coat hanger they just can't be tightened and loosened too frequently.

I don't think the base vs the rings manufacturer was a cause here, the fit has been awesome.

These are the rings that I use 95% of the time, along with the PRW also.

I haven't had any issue with mine yet, but I don't lossen them up as much as you have indicated.

Probably just metal fatique, or you have some pretty strong hands.

It really does look like the base doesn't match the ring very well. Looks to me as if the base is too wide.

The Leupold bases I've used and the ones I make fit much better than that.

(If Leupold doesn't send you a new piece, I'll donate one from the ring I screwed up. PM me.)

Funny, I thought the ring was too narrow. Wink

The fit doesn't look too good to me. 15 years of off and on likely caused fatigue.

Leupold sent the part, which was for a updated version, didn't fit. Since they could not replace the part, they sent a complete new set of rings. Can't complain about that! New model is more robust, but the slot now square for the Picitinny style base as opposed to round like for the Weaver style base... well I will find a good home for them.

Kudos on getting the problem handled! thumb

From what I can see of the break, the steel looks like pot metal, that there was a problem with the steel itself?
