I got gifted a scope today in lieu of payment on a debt I really didn't think warranted any payment at all. At any rate, never having had one I thought I'd ask you guys what I have? Don't hold back, the good , the bad and the ugly . Big tall turrets (yuck!!). Made in Thailand which is a country whose name just resonates with optics maker confidence in my book . Adjustable objective from 50 to 1000 yards. Duplex reticle , matte finish. Discontinued as far as I can tell but I was told they have a good warranty. Do I sell it at my next garage sale or put it on a rifle? Totally unfamiliar with it, opinions??? "If a man buys a rifle at a gun show and his wife doesn't know it"...Did he really buy a rifle? Some years ago I bought two of the 1.75x4 Monarch scopes, believe they actually refer to them as shotguns scopes, which I have used on various rifles including 375HH and 458Lott, etc. and have had no problems. These were made in the Phillipines and work fine. The elev./wind. drum caps are a pain in that the threads are quite fine and soft aluminum material and easy to cross thread. Called Nikon and explained and within few days had couple replacement sets. I just am very careful when using now.

You have a superb scope there, one with optics that will rival glass costing quite a bit more. The edge-to-edge clarity, its resolving power under low light conditions and its ability to minimize flare -- even when looking into starkly backlit areas -- make it a top-flight performer. Plus, the tracking is extremely reliable and repeatable. But if its origin bothers you, I'd be more than willing to give you that "garage sale" price for it -- sight unseen! If you are interested in unloading that scope, please keep me in mind. I have that exact scope, and have had zero problems. Thanks.

Same scope but problems. Good optics but lousy tracking and wandering zero. The local importer has sent my scope back to Japan for repair ?!? It probably won't return before months. I'm willing to buy Nikon cameras in the future but not their scopes... André DRSS --------- 3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact. 5 shots are a group.

At different times they have made these in Thailand, Japan and the Philipines. I happen to have had several from all those places. Cannot tell one bit of difference in them. All are excellent scopes. Track well, among the better scopes in low light, and very good resolution. I have two in the size you have there. If it is something you have a use for you have a darn good scope. They were current as of two years ago though the Thailand made scopes would be another 3 years or so older than that. It probably went in excess of $400 new, and some consider them better than scopes costing more than that.
