I've got 2 Unertls that were on rifles I inhereted quite a while ago, that I just started shooting... I'm also in the process of rebuilding / restoring an old Remngton Rolling Block #1 black powder action rifle, that was converted to a bench rest rifle in the early 60's... the burled wood is incredible, & the roller action is in terrific shape, but it needs rebarreled ( it was rechambered in 225 Winchester ), & a few of the actions parts were changed out to better help it handle he higher pressure... my builder & I both feel the pressures are too high on the 225 Winchester, so I'm rebarreling it with a Shilen 8mm match barrel, & chambering it in 32-40... I want to put a "period" looking scope on it, as it has a high cheek rollover stock... I was looking at the Malcolm style scopes, but haven't heard anything good about the mounts, & thier customer service has not responded to me in weeks, about questions I had, so now I'm leaning towards pulling off ( before restoring that rifle ) a15X Unertl to put on the "roller" anyone shoot or have an tips about using / shooting the Unertls, or Lyman Target Spots, or similar scopes ??? thanks...

Unertl's aren't cheap these days. A guy by the name of Dewey Greiner sells them, but I don't recall his web site. I have a 1 1/2" Unertl 24x Target scope and a Mitchell 32x, which is similar in design to the Unertl's. Don

Been there... Unertl scopes for sale ... alot lately... he's also fro MN... so I might have to get one there??? but, his prices are on the high end of what I've run across so far... I had been afraid to shoot mine ( afraid I'd break or damage the scopes ) as I was told they were worth more than the guns they were mounted on... but more knowledgable internet folks talked me into shooing them, & hooked me upn with a place that can repair them if anything goes wrong... so far, I've shot the 15 X mounted on an 30-06... I also have a 20X mounted on an 25-06... I guess I'm thinking of mounting that 15X on my "roller" project, & getting another 20X for the 30-06, as I'll likely rebuild / restore that rifle, rechambering to 280 Remington, in an attempt to build a 600-1200 yard rifle this is the 1st external adjust scope I've ever shot, & I could sure use any maintenance, or use tips anyone has, as I never got the instructions with the guns

You are right, his prices are Retail +, so I would keep my eye pealed for one off the classified forums of the shooting sites. I didn't get a manual with my scope either, and the only thing I've found so far printed by Unertl is at this link: http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o15/Cosine1/Unertl/ Don

I have a few of those old 'target' scopes in service. The Lyman Supertargetspots may go for less that what was shown here for the Unertls. Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says. When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like! Do that with your optics.
