Picked up a bright, clear Vari X II. Finish if pretty dinged up. Anyway to refinish? I was thinking of a matte black Duracoat. Any other ideas? Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

If you want it done professionally, Leupold will refinish it for you. I forget what the charge is, but if memory serves, it is not massive ($30, maybe?). Pity Leupold has stopped offering that service! They refinished an old VariX-III 6.5-20x40 for me just (maybe?) two years back. Mind you, that scope had a bent center tube, maybe the finish job was part of the general overhaul? Good that you got a lead for whom to turn to! - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Leupold has never refinished, to my knowledge. With their forever warranty, that's the most significant way they have to entice buyers to purchase a new scope. Undoubtedly, the refinish on Mike's scope was due to other work that had to be done. That's a pretty decent refinish on that old Bausch and Lomb. If you can dupicate it, you'll be doing just fine. You can improve a scope's looks by using some Aluminum Black (anodizing solution), available at most shops from the makers of Tru Oil. It won't match the scope's finish perfectly, but it will mask smaller rubs or dings. It works just like cold blue, except on aluminum. It's also good for aluminum floor plates and scope rings.
