The Geovid's have been around for a little while now, and I'd to know how their working out. I need a new pair of bino's and thought range finding binoculars would be almost too convenient.

How are they as a stand alone binocular? How is the range inder compared to others on the market? What about their size, weight and bulk?

Or is it better to go with EL's, SLC or Ultravid coupled with a Leica 1200?

Is there anything new on the market I should look at.

Sorry for all the questions, but I can't find a pair to compare for myself.

Thanks,

Double AA

I love my Geovids. The glass is fantastic; I've been able to range deer out to 800 yards; and the convenience of only carrying one piece of equipment is priceless to me.

The weight of the Geovids (42mm) is no worse than a separate binocular and LRF, and while they are a little bulkier than a stand alone binocular, they're not terrible and it's nothing a good strap or harness system won't solve.

Not sure if you're aware of it, but Leica is having another price increase as of tomorrow, July 1st, 2007, so maybe try to find someone who'll honor the old price...

+1

I have a pair of 10x42's and use a bino buddy type strap and they are not too large at all. I was used to bino's at about 28 oz so the 33 oz is not that much more.

The glass is superb. I hunted with a friend and he had a pair of Swarovski 15x56's. We sat in a stand together and I would switch from one to the other. They were both excellent. I don't know if it was prejudice because I owned the Leica's but I liked them better. Seemed to have a greater depth of field and made it feel more like you were standing out there where you were glassing. The Swarovski's had a flatter image but perhaps just a shade brighter. Same clarity.

The price is outrageous but you will not need another pair. You will not wonder if there is another binocular out there that might do a better job. You have the best.

I bought a pair of 8 powers and instantly obsoleted my ELs. They are really super. Check with Doug at Camera Land and see if he has a good deal on a pair of demos from the shot show.

I have had a pair of 10X42's and found them exceptional, great glass and the convenience is wonderful.......

Now have another pair, 15X56, which is obviously more specialised but again, fantastic.

If Leica were able to squeeze the rangefinder component into a 8X32, I'd add a pair of them, as well! Big Grin thumb

OzHunter,

First off, great picture! Regarding your binos, unless I'm somehow mistaken, you have the Leica Trinovids (BA/BN's), not the Geovids with the built in laser rangefinder, which is the subject at hand...

Thanks for the replies. I ordered a pair of 10x42 this morning. I wanted to ask people with actual field experience for their opinion. At least this way if I don't like them I'll have someone to blame.

Thanks again,
