Gents: I saw a scope on my PH's rifle in South Africa last summer and I want one but can't find one. Here is what I know: Leupold 4.5-14x 50mm objective. The objective lens, on the bottom (6 o'clock), was concave so the scope will fit lower on the rifle. I would like one for my .375 Interarms but am lost as to where to find one or what model number to look for. Any information would be greatly appreciated and can someone tell me what I would expect to pay for such a scope. I want a duplex reticle not the fancy ragne finder stuff. As I can't find one with the Leupold retailers, I assume it's an older scope and out of production. Thanks for your help. The Leupold with a divot out of the front lens is kinda like Cadillac tail fins or powder blue polyester leisure suits. Leupold stopped making it due to it quickly going out of style -- as well as offering no real benefit. The theory was that you could get the "light gathering" (sic) "power" of a 50mm lens but the divot would allow you to mount the scope low enough to provide proper eye placement. That proved to be somewhat of a joke in practice -- as well as being much more expensive to manufacture: A glass lens with a divot cut out of it is pretty hard to build, as well as shaping an aluminum tube to fit it. Not to mention the challenge of sealing the odd-shaped intersection of lens and tube to keep nitrogen in and water out. Even the most superlative ad copy that Leupold's highly-paid Madison Avenue propaganda propagators could produce from their 81st story corner offices couldn't save the Divot scope from its well-deserved extinction. | |||
