I have an older 700 Rem. in .30-06 that had belonged to my father. The rifles has tip-off mounts, and I'm wondering whether these types of mounts will hold groups as well as solid-mount rings? When it's locked down there's no play in it that I can tell, but sometimes when shooting heavy loads from a bench they will open up, which doesn't seem good for the scope. I'm just now working up loads for it, and would like your opinions on the set-up.

Thanks Smiler

AZ, if they open up, that won't work...obviously...so if you cure that you are probably fine, but if not, get some good 'regular' mounts. I'm a big fan of the vertically split Talleys--great repeatable mounting on their bases, they make a couple of QD types also, screw (torx) on and lever style, look great on a classic 700.

Regards--Don

I have a setup on my winchester 88, The scope will flip over to the side out of the way or it will snap back into posistion. I can shoot 3/4-1 moa pretty easily with this gun. I don't mess with the scope mount, I just always leave it in posistion, so I assume it works ok

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC
