Here's a link to an Aldis Brothers scope marked John Rigby, London. I'm curious. Is this actually a WWI vintage commercial scope? Would it be appropriate for a pre WWI Mauser Oberndorf sporting rifle? I believe it to be a scope from that era but would appreciate a confirmation if anyone if familiar with these. Thanks, Chris

It might be appropriate historically, but if you want to hunt with the rifle, esp. for DG, I'd look for a post-WWII Zeiss, Hensoldt or Nickel, all of which will probably have much better field blending.

That Aldis scope does have mounts you might use without trying to set up something with a rail, though, and if it gets bumped you might be able to look underneath.
