After experiencing a failure with a Leupold that failed to hold zero (Leupold fixed it), I have decided that ANY new scope I get will be tested on either my Sako AV 375 H&H or my Rem 700 Classic in 300 Weatherby.
I figure if the scope survives 200 rounds with either of these, it should be just fine on a lesser caliber rifle, and if it does fail, I'll get the warranty stuff out of the way early.

And a large bottle of Aleve for my shoulder!

That seems a bit extreme, Frank, unless you're hunting for some really rare trophy on a very expensive hunt. In any case, those 200 shots may not not cause the scope to fail at the time but might still shorten its life to just after the warranty does run out.

Perhaps you could add the cost of 200 .375 mag cartridges to the price you were going to pay for the scope, hopefully getting a brand with a very long warranty. You were probably just unlucky with that particular Leupold but I would be looking for a scope that met several criteria, my favourite being field blending for quick acquisition of the target.

Yes Frank, I also think that's extreme.

I test any scope I get but don't feel the need to test them on the heaviest recoiling rifle I have. If something is so bad with the scope it won't hold zero with a 375 H&H Magnum
, it probably won't hold zero with a 308 Winchester either.

By the way, I have multiple Leupold scopes I use on heavy recoiling rifles (like 300 Weatherby, 375 H&H Magnum, 378 Weatherby Magnum & 458 Lott) and handguns and the only ones I've had fail have been the ones used on handguns.

Leupold warr never expires even if you buy it used. I have about 20 Leupold scopes and have worked with many more. Never had a problem with any. Not to say it cannot happen just not likely to happen often as is the case with some other brands.
