Hello stigonom,

Without ANY question, buy the Zeiss!!! That time Zeiss scopes are the best made scopes anytime, anywhere! Both in optics and mechanics.

Good luck

Opinions vary, as Jeffeosso says in his signature.

I have owned both and for my own use I would take a Meopta over the older Zeiss. I'd also take an older Meopta over an older Zeiss.

Hi,

If you know how these scopes are made, having opened examples of both, plus many other very well known brands(a friend is one or our two optics technicians who work on riflescopes, even nitrogen filling), the differences are obvious. Anyway, the optics are very close. But, as Alberta C. said, opinions vary.

Regards

PH

I have a couple of the one inch main tube Zeiss Diatal-C scopes, both are 6x32mm fixed power, and they are excellent.

I don't know much, or really anything, about the Meoptas.

I looked through a Zeiss Classic Diatal 6x42 T* and it was one of the brightest scopes that I looked trough - better to my eyes than the Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 that I comapred it with. In fact I compared it also againts 5 other variable scopes set at 6x magnification, and it beat all of them, including the much touted March scope. Safari & Outdoor in Stellenbosch is selling them for R8500. I seldom hunt where I need more than 6x magnification in any event - the nice view you get with a 7 mm exit pupil [42mm/6x] is a plus for me. Perhaps not as versatile as a variable scope, but it works most of the time in splendid fashion. What follows comes from Safari & Outdoor's website:

Zeiss Classic Diatal 6x42 T* Riflescopes are lightweight, high quality riflescopes that are perfect for any hunting application. The Zeiss Classic Diatal 6 x 42 Riflescope features a 42mm Objective Lens making it an ideal sized rifle scope that will give you a great view of your shot. The Classic Diatal Riflescope also has a fixed 6x magnification for close shots and a wide field of view. In addition to these technical features is the brilliant image quality and high detail recognition of Zeiss Classic Riflescopes. The Classic Diatal 6x 42mm Rifle Scope contains Zeiss T* MultiCoatings, which increases light transmission and gives off a higher contrast. The Zeiss Classic Diatal 6x42mm T* Riflescope also features a rugged construction that is built to survive the toughest of conditions. The Zeiss Riflescope 's housing is made of solid aluminum making it strong and lightweight. The aluminum housing has an anodized surface that will protect the riflescope against scratches. The rifle scope is sealed tight, preventing dust and moisture from entering, and is also nitrogen filled to prevent the lens from fogging. The performance of the Classic Diatal 6x42mm T* Riflescope by Zeiss does not disappoint as it is recoil-proof, and has an easy and precise sighting-in using the zeroed reticle adjustment and wear-resistant click mechanisms. These features of Zeiss Classic Diatal 6x42 T* Riflescopes make them high optical and mechanical quality rifle scopes that meet the requirements of serious hunters.
