I saw an old Weaver variable scope last week at a friend. It was marked "Weaver Adjustable, El Paso. V 8" It had some unusual features. There was no internal adjustment, but sighting-in was done with the mount. The mount was some sort of lavette. It also had an triple hair cross with three vertical and three horisontal hairs, making nine small squares in the intersection area. It could be interesting to hear some words about it - age, purpose, experiences et cetera. Regards, Fritz The true and only Fritz Kraut

i had one many many moons ago, was a piece of s--t the front ring alone is not enough to hold against even moderate recoil, hence every time i took it out i had to resight it.

I have one of the old V8s but it doesn't have the reticle you describe. Mine is in a Kuharsky Bros mount which works very well. It is on a Mannlicher 1952 270 and I've never changed the zero. The adjustment is in the mount and it's a little difficult to get zeroed at first but never changes. The scope plugs in and out on the mount and works very well for a 50's scope. Nice for a walk in the woods but I wouldn't take it to Africa! Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing.

I have dozens of old Weavers. I used to buy them for $20 at gunshows. Now ebay has driven up the cost. They are mostly more trouble than they are worth. I hunted with a 40 year old scope this year. Don't try this at home.
