Back on 5 Sept I flew up north of Nome, Alaska for a Grizzly hunt and ended up taking a 62" moose @ 15 yds with my 4-5/8" SS Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC.

The reason I was able to take such a magnificant animal was in part due to superiour optics and tripod.

I spotted both my bull and a very large Grizzly at around 6 miles distance with my Zeiss 65mm angled Diascope held in place with the K&K TP36, 36" tripod.

I bought the tripod last year directly from K&K. They don't have a web site. I was able to get their telephone off one of their tripods I saw at my local Sportsman Warehouses.

When I bought the tripod I also bought a somewhat "universal" binocular mount which is used in conjunction with their tripod. Makes for glassing very efficiently as you loose the wobble associtated with holding bino's by hand. In the extremly open terrain of the Seward peninsula where the closest tree to me was probably 100 miles due east, I rarely used my classic Zeiss 10x40's on the mount and just kept the spotting scope tucked away safely in my Eberlestock J107 pack accompanied by the K&K tripod.

That combination I used became known in camp as "the" set up to locate game. Twice I was able to watch two hunters take a moose and my best friends Grizzly through my spotting scope. I'd say I had better seats than Jack Nichoson @ an LA Laker's basket ball game.

The edge to edge clarity, contract and ease of fine focusing the scope was fantastic. I tried many scopes before purchasing my Zeiss and determined that the dual focusing wheels, one for fine and one for gross adjustments, were superior to anything else I'd tried. When you're trying to count points or determine the width of a moose a great distances it very important to have such features.
