Failed Burris rings?

I have a Browning take-down BLR in .300 WSM and I put a Pentax 1.5-5x Lightseeker scope on it (in which, incidently, I find the optics superior to Leupolds). I had some Burris QD Weaver-style rings already and used them with steel Weaver type mounts.

Today, I finally sighted in the rifle and found it to be a good shooter with all but one of 5 three shot groups being better than 1" at 100 yards using some old Winchester Fail Safe Ammo.

I decided to shoot at 200 yards and on the first shot at that range both little recoil lugs sheared from the rings and the scope just fell off the rifle.

Did I just get a "lemon" set of rings, or has anyone else had a similar experience with Burris?

My guess is you over tightened them and then they failed under recoil vibration. Steel rings can be torqued to greater foot pounds but some of these rings have aluminum parts which can't take it. This is just a guess without inspecting the parts.

The rings didn't fail. The little recoil lugs (both of them) sheared off.

My local gunsmith said he has quit buying them because he has had two failures in .308 rifles.

?????

Let me ask you a question. Does the cross over bolt have a tension adjustment or is it preset?
