looking for a BLUED scope. looking for one in 3-9x40 and maybe something around 1.5-4x. but i cant really seem to find anything thats blued and not some kinda damned matte finish. i like my scopes to match my rifles and im just not a matte person. even the weaver classic series is matte now.
if at first you dont succeed. blow it up.

yeah but i think theyre still an aluminum tubed coated with a gloss finish. think im gonna end up going with a vintage scope. ive got a couple old weaver 6x's now but they would be huge on a model 94.

I picked up a new gloss Burris FF II 3x9x40 for $119.95 this past year, they were on closeout. I did'nt really need it but for that price I figured I'd have a spare.
In order to be "blued" the scope has to be built on a steel tube like the old El Paso Weavers, not alumuinum. This makes their weight, especially with the 40mm+ objectives that are popular these days, excessively heavy for most sporting purposes.
The last steel scope I know of was the Leupold reintroduction of the Lyman Alaskan on a 7/8" tube. You find these on ebay or other sites ocassionally, but in order to buy one be prepared to go out in the back yard and dig up one of those tomato cans where you hid a stack of hundred dollar bills.

Occasionally someone will have a Lyman All American in 4 or 6x for around $150... decent period scope that is steel and blued. Don't expect all the blue to be present or nitrogen filled.

I don't know how hard they are to find in the US, but Meopta makes (made?) steel tubed scopes, the Artemis series. Very good quality, several choices in the variable scope range. Only the 3-9 is not steel.
Leupold offers some scopes in "gun metal gray". In fact there is a 3.5x10 due to be auctioned on ebay inn 13 hours. I much prefer it to the gloss black.

The older Lymans came in blued steel, but a lot of the later ones did not. I have several of the All-Americans that have what appears to be some kind of black enamel finish. I haven't tried the magnet test on them, but the "enameled" ones could well be aluminum-tubed.
My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
