Long eye relief?

Hi,

Looking for a scope that has a long eye relief.
The idea is to mount the scope in the Scout manner in front of the receiver rather than on top of it.

What makes are available?
Any variable scopes at all?
Any that are good in dim light, i.e. large objective (up to 56mm) and preferably 30mm tube rather than 1"?
I'm looking for something that has a very low lowest power setting like 1x, as I want to have a wide field of vision. The greatest magnification need not be more than 4x, I have never used more than 6x even if the scope goes all the way to 12x.

If you have something that you use and are satisfied with, let me know!
Equally so, if you would advice me to steer away from some make/model, that would be appreciated.
Price is of little concern.

I think there is a German scope 30mm make for dangerous game that starts at about 1.5 power and has about 5" or 13cm. Swaro has a 30mm with 100' or more field of view and almost 5" of eye relief. I an not sure any of those will be enough. Of course several American Optics companies make pistol scopes with 8" to 15 or more inches but I think they are all 1" tubes. Good luck.

You need a scope specifically designed for a scout mounting not just a scope with more eye relief. Nikon, Leupold, & Burris all make them. Also, depending on your exact configuration, you might look at some pistol scopes. Some may have enough eye relief to work.

Thank you both for your advice!

Do you know if the pistol scopes will be able to cope with the recoil of a rifle?
Say, in the .30-06 class.

How are the Nikons optically?
Nikon's cameras are good, but I have never used a scope nor binos by Nikon, nor do I know anyone who has Nikon's optics.

My Leupold deals with my 500 S&W which has a tad more recoil than a 30-06.I dont think you want a Pistol scope as we are talking Arms length eye releif .A Zeis Conquest gives you 4" eye releif .I use one on a 375H&H with no problems.

Outstanding. IMO, they are the best value for the money around now. Take a look through one, and you will be sold.
