I am getting a 7mm mag mostly for hunting but I would also like to do some long range target shooting. Could use some options as far as optics go, I really dont want to spend more than $400, would really like to spend less than $300. I think for hunting, something in the 2.5-10 to 5-15 range would be good, do you think mil dot or target turrets would better serve me for this application? I will also carry this gun and potentially take shorter shots at deer etc. Need something with good optics that can handle the recoil. Thanks for your advice! A couple I have been considering are: Browning 5-15 2.5 - 10 New Monarch Weaver T10 (I have this scope on a 338 winmag and am quite impressed, very clear, the reticle is a little fine for low light conditions but so far I havent had any serious problems) Of the 3 listed Im sure the monarch would be the best, but it is also 2x the price of the other two. Any other options you guys throw out will definately be considered.

I'd say a variable would be a better idea than another fixed T10....the new Monarchs are nice...if you can live with 'made in the Phillipines'...look at a 4-16 Monarch..this will give you locking side focus...target turrets...plenty of magnification...not sure how much target shooting I'd want to do with a field weight 7 mag... pic is 5-20 Nikon on my 6BR....[URL=http://imageshack.us]

I just got one of the new Monarchs from the Optic Zone. I would look at the 3-12x42. They have them for $359 right now. These are by far the best prices on the new Monarchs. Bob 3-12x42 There is room for all of God's creatures....right next to the mashed potatoes. http://texaspredatorposse.ipbhost.com/

The Weaver T 10 is a good value scope, but do not believe it is available w/ mil dots. Stay away from the Bullet Drop Compensator types unless you plan on shooting the same load/caliber all the time. Mil dot is not caliber/load specific and once you learn to read the dots, very easy to dial in the distance or wind required. Check out the Sniper Scope offered by SWFA, not the highest quality out there, but good value. I would stick with the 10 power version, plenty of magnification. Very few folks can handle above a 14 power scope unless well trained and quite steady. If you want a variable, then as the person above mentioned, that Nikon is a real good value, but just never like the variables myself, but many folks swear by them??? Good Luck.
