Anybody out there had an opportunity to look at or use one of the new Nikon Monarch African scopes?

I have had bad experiences with Nikon Monarch scopes on heavy recoil firearms.

I have had no problems after moving those scopes to .30/30 level recoil firearms.

I put a Leupold VX-1 3x9 on my 375 and put approximately 50 rounds through it without any problems. I just removed it and put a Leupold VX2 1-4X20 on it and really like the little scope. patriot

I purchased two of the Nikon Monarch 1.75x4 scopes sometime ago and use them on both 375HH and 458Lott. Both have held up with fair amount of shooting. Seem to be a very tough scope for the money. Actually the version I have is what they call their shotgun scope.

I bought a Nikon Monarch 6-20x44 AO for my AICS stocked Rem 700 P in .308 Win.

Optics were great and better than those of my Leupold Vari-X III. However, tracking was only so-so and the zero moved from week to week. I sent it back to the importer more than 2 months ago, reassured by the claimed lifetime warranty. No feed back, so my dealer called the importer. Answer : the scope was sent back to Japan ?!? One thing for sure, this was my 1st. but last Nikon scope.

Andre-

I must ask why you sent it to your importer instead of directly to one of the Nikon repair facilities?

I think the delay is with your importer.

I HAVE used Nikon's customer service and was extremely pleased (even impressed). When a rifle took a fall onto a concrete fall during a photo shoot, the Monarch variable took the brunt of the impact. I don't have the paperwork in front of me, but if memory serves, it was 9 days from when I sent it in to the day I received it back -- all at no charge, I might add.

Every company can turn out a bad item from time to time. But of all the Nikons I have had and abused, none ever suffered from any type of factory defect.

They are simply as reliable as anything around.

Your experience is the exception and not the norm.

I have seen a number of scope "failures," and surprisingly enough, most were directly the result of improper mounting. Heck, even a lowly .308 WCF will batter a scope senseless if not mounted correctly.

I'd wish we had something like a "Nikon scope repair center" in this country, Bobby. However, while Nikon has quite a large subsidiary selling cameras and photo related gear, they do not list scopes and binos. These are distributed by an independant local importer ?!? The latter has such a bad rep' that my gunshop chose to send my scope to the (much bigger) German importer who, in turn, kicked it back to Japan... OTOH, I own a Nikon SLR digital camera and am quite pleased with it.

We had a couple of the new Nikon African scopes in for testing. one standard and one lit reticle 1.1-4x24. great scopes, very clear, and rugged, no issues.

I think they are a great value for the $$. Nikon makes a good dependable product and these are no different.

Scopes held up just fine with over 100 rounds through a Jarrett 416 RM (no Brake) I would not hesitate to purchase or use one.

I don't think this is an entirely new model. I've been using a Nikon 1-4 on a .416 Rigby for several years and its been excellent.
