Have just acquired an telescopic sight that doesn't have any name ID on it. It is a variable 3-9 but with an unusual reticule. Like a standard "duplex" except the lower fine crosshair has six bars across it for, I am guessing, range holdover. As in the bottom half of the reticule are six circles from left to right, in diminishing sizes, marked underneath then on the reticule 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175. Any ideas, please, and what rifle sport would it be from?

My guess is that the circles are for range estimation. But if that is so, with a maximum of 175 yards or meters, it would have to be set up for a pretty slow caliber, maybe .22 rimfire. It would be interesting to see a picture. .

Here's a representation I made using MS Paint. On the real thing the circles, two on left, four on right have 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 written above (or below) them.

I am guessing it is some range finding device. You probably put the vitals in the circle, and the circle that contains them gives you your yardage. You then use the hash marks as aiming points.Alternative ,I am thinking this is for a 22 Rimfire rifle and the different size circles are for round bulls eyes.Same idea which ever bullseye is contained in the circle gives you your yardage and you use the appropriate hash mark to aim with.JMHO,OB

It reminds me a bit of a night force NP-1RR reticle and the circles are designed for ranging. The night force circles are for circling a mans head and are calibrated out to 800. Yours would seem to be for a 22 rimfire and the circles might be sized for prairie dogs? Measure the 100 yard circle against a target grid to find its size.
