I have a new Pentax Gameseeker scope that I mounted on a 20 yr. old rifle. I checked the origional mounts before mounting the rings to make sure they were still tight. This gun went from 1" groups to 7" groups after insalling the new scope. I pulled the scope and found the scope tube was crushed in the front ring. The rings were new Leupold Rifleman rings. I want to know if the crushed tube could make the grouping go to hell? Thanks, Steve
It is not the tube as much as the lens/erector groups that are under the area of the dent...this will make the scope zero move and may allow the movement to be different after every shot or jar to the scope.....check with Leupold and see if the rings are too small for specs for the scope tube and they might replace it for you if the rings are bad but if you overtightened the rings then you chalk it up to a learning experience...my gunsmith says torx screws let you tighten toooooo tight....good luck and good shooting...soon I hope!

Sent this scope in along with a MO for 19.95 and 2 1/2 weeks later I get a brand new one back no questions asked. I guess their "Worry Free" warrenty really is just that. Totally my fault, did not matter. Two thumbs up to Pentax. Steve
The Gameseeker is clearer than the VX-1 but I do not believe that it is quite up to the VX-II in clarity. It is surprising just how close the $100 Pentax gets to a $300 Leupold in contrast and resolution.
I've noticed the rifleman rings are a tight fit on 1" tubes. I also put ring compression marks on the tube of a Weaver 3x9 on a 10/22. I did'nt think Id tightened them that tight.
I think their I.D. needs to be opened a little. I've never had a problem before with weaver style rings from Weaver,Burris or Leupold steel QD rings.
