Are they adjustable in the field for dialing in at extended ranges like tactical scopes are?

The models 4.5-14x50 and 6.5-20x50 have target dials, and can be adjusted without prior removal of caps. All the remaining current Conquest models have caps, which would need to be removed, and you'd probably have to look at the dials to be sure how many clicks you adjusted. I'm not aware of anyone making dials for the Conquest (like they are available for certain Leupold models) customized for a particular load. So even if you did use the Conquest models with target dials, you'd have to remember how many clicks would give you what POI adjustment at a particular distance. Zeiss does offer long range POI adjustments for some of their scopes, but I'm not sure this service includes the Conquest line. http://longrangehunting.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php is the place to ask these questions, btw. 3-9x40 and 3.5-10x44 have 66 MOA of elevation, and you can get target turrets instaled. Not sure about the price. I belive you need 34 MOA to get a 308 to a 1000 yards, so you might need a 20MOA base, or use the mil-dots as holdover.

If you can order target knobs then Kenton Industries can probably make BDC dials for you. Great company...I have several sets of their dials and they work great. http://www.kentonindustries.com/

Trust me ... if you want a conquest with turrets, order/buy one that comes from the factory with turrets ... DO NOT have them installed after the fact. Reason? Because there is no index mark on the scope tube for the models that come from the factory w/out turrets. The "hunting" models have an almost impossible to see little dot that is only revealed once you remove the adjustment cap ... and even then, in perfect light, you pretty much have to know what you're looking for or you will not see it... Here's a picture of the 4.5-14x50 with turrets, mounted on one of my rifles... this one came with turrets and side focus ... and it's on a -20-MOA base so I can wring out as much "up" as needed to get out to 1000yds ... The scope is GREAT, to say the least ... - WGM -
