I have a set of Leica 10 x 42 BA binocs and a 1200 lrf scan rangefinder that I could not be happier with. Have the opportuntity to buy a new in box Leica 3.5 x 10 x 42(?) scope.
Any of you guys own one of these or know anything plus or minus about this scope. I have leupold, ziess and swaros. How does the leica compare to these.

You're talking about 5 year or older glass. While I'm sure it is a decent scope, it won't be on the level of the newer best quality scopes. Leica is coming out with new scopes, if you're sold on Leica, I'd wait for them. Of course, if it was very reasonably priced that would make a difference.

10/4 on that Gato,

I had the same thoughts, and on something like this, its purely a matter of economics, ie; can I sell it for as much or more than I paid for it when its time, and will it give me good service while I use it, versus how flush I am at the time and what else is competing for that cash.

You know how some things tend to hold their value while others don't. For example, I have an 03' 100th anniverary HD electra glide classic. I could sell it for more today in this depressed economy than what was paid for it 4 years ago. Whereas a 6 year old jap crotch rocket could be bought for 1/3 that amount.
I operate within a "narrow band of mediocrity". If I could get into a Ziess Diavari C 3 x 9 riflescope for $200 as I did a while back, that's a good deal. However I do not have knowledge of this Leica scope other than scuttlebutt. Hence my post

My friend has one. It's a nice scope but on par with a Leupold VariX-III. I use that comparison because that was Leupold's top of the line 1" scope at the time they assembled the Leica scopes.
They supposedly used Leica lens but Leupold's body. But playing with a VariX-III and Leica side by side the image seemed to be exactly the same. Because of that, I wouldn't pay much more than what a Leupold sells for.
On a side note, the Conquest came out close to the same time. The Conquest line's image was considered better to us than the other two scopes.
