I don't know when they were made, but they have blued bodies and the forward ring goes around the objective lens. Can I use "normal" scope rings? How are the optics? Use would be a .25cal pre-charged pneumatic air rifle, so no shots at animals more than 100 yards away...or so. I'll find out when these scopes were made.

If it is what I am thinking of they are excellent scopes. Mounts soldered on can be removed and the scopes can be refurbished by Kahles. Yes standard rings can be used. If it is a true 26mm tube don't use 1" rings. You can get 26mm rings from Talley. I had one several years ago and I did all of the above. It came back good as new. I used it for a couple of years then traded it at SWFA toward a pair of Leica binoculars. They are very bright. 8x56 results in an exit pupil of 7mm. .

The scope would have to be completely stripped to remove the soldered-on mount. Kahles charged me a mint to refurbish an old scope, so I don't expect they would do that job cheaply. For some reason Teutonic gunsmiths have never embraced full-ring mounts for centrefires and would strip steel scopes before soldering on the half rings, making them more expensive to mount than the dearer dural models with rails. Because rails usually get holes drilled through them, the most collectable scopes now tend to be steel ones that never had mounts soldered on. You could just saw off the bottom of the mount if appearance and barrel clearance are not an issue.

Sambarman - I removed the mounts myself using a propane tourch. It wasn't the best tool for the job but it was the only heating tool I had. I accidentally melted something in one of the turrets. It was smoking and refused to function afterward. It also left solder on the tube. I don't remember what I was charged for the repair but I do remember it was very reasonable and much less than I expected. When the scope came back it was good as new. They fixed the turret, removed the solder, and refinished the tube. When I traded it in at SWFA I received more credit for it than I had put into it. .

I've got a post-war Hensoldt Diasta (4x32) with soldered-on mount nubs (someone has cut the claws off). I would take them off, too, but fear it would end in tears.
