I have had this old pair of Hensoldt 8X56 Nacht Diayt's since I got them new in 61. I used them for chucking and other binocular tasks over the years. They are a little on the long side but not all that heavy at 30oz. considering. The Leupold 8X42 Wind River Pinnacles have become my main binoculars since I got them a couple of years ago. They are quite a bit smaller than the old Hensoldt's and a little lighter. They must be much better of course as they have those new high tech. lens coatings and modern lens grinding right? I have a deer stand that I watch til dusk quite often. The sun sets just ahead and it's a pretty view and good for hunting. I brought both pairs and cleaned them both with a Zeiss lens cloth and picked them up one after the other and compared them. The old Hensoldt's are far superior in resolution, glare control, color and comfort of focus. I had brought the Pinnacles to Cabela's last April and compared them on three separate visit's to the best that they sell. That included Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski, Nikon, Pentax, Meopta, Leupold and many others. The Pinnacles were quite good as compared to the others not that I like the focus wheel or eyecups. I did not buy new binoculars as mine were quite good. Or so I thought. This actual field test in real hunting conditions was quite dramatic. The Pinnacles are not even on the same page as the old 8X56's. My eyesight is more acute than normal. I don't wear glasses in the field. | ||
