I bought one last year for helping retrieve hogs shot in moonlight. I don't have much mobility and figured this would make things easier on everyone. So far, it has done fine. Also, you can detect the heat signatures of a hog or deer from 200 yards or a bit more, though you can't tell what it is -- you have to be very close for that. But it does what it was intended for.

It also allowed me to spot a coon with distemper that was in the yard recently. It was wobbling up to me as I opened the door one evening, so I slipped back in the house to grab a sidearm. Couldn't see it anywhere. So I grabbed the thermal and spotted it within seconds and was able to dispatch it.

Battery life is not all that good, so I bought a set of rechargeable to solve the problem.

Thanks for the info.

I was thinking it might come in handy when in thick cover at night where a bear might be lurking.

Move in a little ways, scan, and then move in a little more.
