You probably still think there is a Calcutta and Madras over here too, huh? The funny part is that most of the expats try to remember to call it Mumbai, and a lot of the locals still call it Bombay. | ||

Just a question, but why the name change to Mumbay? is it the same logic as Peking and Beijing? Funny thing is when I go to a chinese restaurant I order "Peking Duck," the chinese order taker has no idea what "Beijing Duck" is. jorge | |||

Yes, attacking a badger in its nest tend to bring out all of his grumpiness. Not a good idea. Btw, I was in Mumbay in february, and you are right, the locals referred to their city as Bombay. | |||

he he. I realy dont know, but my guess would be that they renamed it to get it closer to what they identify with. Imagine the Chinese occupying USA clos to a hundred years ago, and naming Washington Bash Shin Ton and New York No Jerk..... You get my drift, right Of course, nothing is more permanent and names take on a life of their own. | |||
