Two arrested for poaching Beitbridge Bureau POLICE have arrested two brothers from Swereki Village in Beitbridge West for killing a giraffe and two impalas on the farm of Home Affairs Minister Cde Kembo Mohadi. It is alleged that on Monday afternoon, the two, aged 33 and 18 years, went to Upper Zhovhe Farm on two ox-drawn scotch-carts and armed with spears, machetes and axes. Once at the farm they are said to have killed a giraffe and two impalas which they skinned using spears but fled, leaving behind their scotch-carts when they realised that they had been spotted by a farm worker. A report was made to police when some farm workers who had been called to help failed to catch the suspects. The two were arrested in their village the following day when police made a follow-up. The police officer commanding Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Nicholas Mawere, confirmed the arrests yesterday. Chief Supt Mawere said the carcasses of the slaughtered animals were subsequently recovered. Late last year an employee at the farm was arrested for stealing a zebra.
