I just watched this movie (at least the end of it). I'm sure that the producers had an anti hunting message in there, especially when Clint Eastwood couldn't shoot the big bull elephant.

But I took something totally different away from it: "See what happens when you don't take the shot on dangerous game when it's presented! Somebody gets killed!

Pull the damn trigger, Clint! BOOM

When that movie first came out, there was a statement by Clinty boy that they were trying to make an anti-hunting statement.I've never watched it, and never will.

What has always astounded me is the fact that actors who've made their money from over-the-top violence and killings in movies then are anti-gun, anti-hunting, etc. Too bad all their old movies couldn't be copied and distributed free. Unfortunately, copyright laws forbid that.

Unfortunately Eli Wallach (still alive at 95 years) and Clint Eastwood became anti gun & anti hunting. Too bad.

I don't think it's anti-hunting. I think it is a self-serving personality story. Could have have had any number of back-drops.

I was under the impression that Clint was actually pretty conservative. If I can recall, he was the Republican mayor of Carmel, CA.......but I may be wrong.

Try reading the book. As usual, it loses a lot in the translation to film. It's a story of the destruction of a friendship that used hunting as the vehicle. The book also contains one of the best passages ever written about why people hunt IMHO.

Nope, Eastwood is only "consevative," when it comes to "conserving" his own millions upon millions of $$$$.

He is extremely anti-hunting and has said in a long interview in the "Los Angeles Times" newspaper that hunters are psychologically impaired.

Don't let his on-screen persona fool you. All that rough stuff and macho lines were written for him by screenwriters.

Didn't see the interviews, thanks for informing us.

Wasn't basing my impressions on his film personnas. I was basing them on his politics. If he is so anti-hunting and anti second ammendment, then he should not take any film roles along those lines -- yeah, if only! LOL! Big Grin It's a shame that more "stars" don't step into the real world......
